SMS messaging policy

thesignup is an event signup platform, organizers post events, participants pick a slot or item to bring, and we use email and (optionally) SMS to keep everyone in sync.

How participants opt in

Participants opt in to SMS reminders by entering their phone number on the public signup form for an event they want to join. The signup form clearly indicates that providing a phone number means we may send a reminder text about the event. No phone number, no texts.

Registered users can also turn SMS reminders off at any time in their account settings under Notifications → SMS reminders.

What messages we send

Reminders are 1:1 transactional. We do not send marketing or promotional messages. Typical message types:

  • Event reminder, sent roughly 24 hours before the event the participant signed up for. Sample:
    Reminder: Team Lunch is Sat, Apr 26, 12:30 PM. Details: https://thesignup.app/s/team-lunch. Reply STOP to opt out.

Future message types (event cancellation, schedule changes) will follow the same opt-in and the same STOP/HELP behavior described below.

Message frequency

Approximately one message per event signup. A participant who signs up for three different events would receive up to three reminder texts, one per event, ~24 hours before each one.

Costs

thesignup does not charge for SMS reminders. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.

Opt-out

Reply STOP to any message to immediately stop further texts to that number. Replies are processed by our SMS provider (Twilio) and apply across the entire platform, you will not receive further messages until you reply START.

Registered users can also disable SMS reminders globally in account settings under Notifications → SMS reminders.

Help

Reply HELP to any message to receive a short auto-response with this policy URL and a contact address. You can also email support@thesignup.app at any time.

Privacy

Phone numbers are stored only to send the reminder you opted into and to handle STOP/HELP keywords. We do not sell, rent, or share phone numbers with third parties for marketing.
