Cookie policy

Cookies are small data files stored on your device when you visit a website. Local storage and session storage are similar, they persist key-value data in your browser. We use the term "cookies" loosely on this page to cover all three.

Cookies set by us are first-party cookies. Cookies set by services we use (e.g. our analytics provider) are third-party cookies.

thesignup uses two categories of cookies. We do not use advertising or marketing cookies.

Strictly necessary

Required for the site to work, primarily authentication. Without these cookies you cannot stay signed in, and key features (creating events, signing up to attend) cannot function.

• Session cookie (better-auth), issued by our authentication library when you sign in. HTTP-only, secure, expires when your session ends or when you sign out.

Analytics

Help us understand how the product is used so we can fix bugs and improve. Pseudonymous: tied to your account ID once you sign in, but not used for advertising or sold to anyone.

• PostHog cookies / local storage (ph_*_posthog, ph_*_window_id), set by PostHog, our product analytics provider. Records anonymous device + session IDs and product events (e.g. "event created", "signed up").

Session recording

A replay of your visit — the pages you saw and where you clicked — so we can see where the signup flow breaks without having to ask you to reproduce it. Recorded by PostHog, using the same cookies listed above. Off unless you turn it on, and listed separately from analytics because it captures more than which pages you visited.

Error monitoring

Crash reports when something fails: the error, where in the app it happened, and what the browser was doing at the time. Sent to PostHog.

You can accept or reject cookies through your browser. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be rejected without breaking authentication. Most browsers also let you delete cookies that have already been set.

Open cookie settings

It opens the same choices you were offered the first time, with whatever you picked already filled in, and takes effect immediately. Turning something off also clears what it stored. This page is linked from the cookie banner itself and from our footer, so it is always reachable.

Your choices do not expire. We will only ask again if what we collect materially changes — a new provider, or a new purpose — at which point the previous answer no longer covers what is being asked. If you would rather not use the settings link, emailing support@thesignup.app works too.

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal everywhere, not only where it is legally required. If your browser sends it, we treat it as a refusal and do not ask again.

We do not embed third-party advertising pixels. Email reminders sent through our provider (Resend) may include standard delivery-tracking pixels so we can confirm whether an email opened, these are common to most transactional email and are used only for diagnostics, not for profiling or advertising.

We may update this Cookie Policy when our use of cookies changes, for example, if we add a new analytics provider or a new purpose. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect any change. Where the change affects what you agreed to, we ask again rather than relying on your previous answer.
